I will be moving to OpenDNS/Umbrella services, and want to ensure DNS resolution for the network is going where I want it to. I have the network and DNS settings of the DSM set to 127.0.0.1 for the only LAN 1 port enabled.ĭoes anyone know why I am seeing UNREPLIED results when using 208.67.222 or 1.1.1.1 and why is DSM using 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 for any reason? Does this indicate DSM is trying the IPs I configured for outbound DNS resolution, and then trying Google DNS as some sort of default? Hello Victor, Adding to what LHerzog mentioned, make sure the RED network 192.168.1. In this case, my DSM is 172.16.1.69 (giggity) and have never configured 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 anywhere within this box. The only 'strange' value i see is the Connection status 'UNREPLIED'. Under the System Log - Port Forwarding page, I see the following: Destination Proto. Udp 172.16.1.69:20358 1.1.1.1:53 UNREPLIED In the connection tab I have alot of unreplied calls to the Comcast DNS servers. I can see in the DNS server logs, all of the DHCP clients are using the DSM as their DSN resolution resource, but when I look into my WAN gateway netstat I see Google DNS IPs as seen here:

I have the DNS server zone configured with my internal names/IPs mapped out, and have the “Enable Resolution Service” enabled with forwarders pointing to 1.1.1.1 and as a test, 208.67.222.222. So I am using DSM 6.2.4 on my DS720+ and utilizing the DNS Server app as the central DNS authoritative resource within my network.
